Movie & Talk: Colonialism made in Germany

12th of November 5PM-7PM (CEST)/ 8AM-10AM (PDT)/11AM-1PM (EDT)

“Kolonialismus Made in Göttingen” (2025) is a documentary dialogue film that brings together scientific, activist, and civil society perspectives. In around 51 minutes, it sheds light on Göttingen's role in the history of colonialism and the invention of racism – from its beginnings at the university to colonial collections to the experiences of Black people in Göttingen today. With their film, Sarah Böger, Samer Al Mhethawi, and Ibrahima Ndiaye Sall invite viewers to take a critical look at a large, repressed chapter of their own city's history—and beyond Göttingen.

The film is subtitled in English/German.

After the screnning we want to discuss the ending of the film, where Dr. Tarisi Vunididulo speaks about decolonization as a process of redistributing power. Moderated by Audrey Noukeu, Dr. Tarisi Vunidilo, Andrea-Vicky Amankwaa-Birago and film-maker Sarah Böger will talk about the challenges and necessities to overcome colonial behavior and structures.
